There is no denying that the following stones are eye catching and in some instances very beautiful, however they are not as Mother Earth intended and have been adapted by humans using various techniques.
DYED AGATES AND BERYLS
The stones above have been dyed vivid colours by soaking them in high strength industrial dyes that penetrate the crystal. Any of the healing properties these stones possess are highly diminished during this process as the dye is basically poisoning the stone. Sadly many dealers bulk out their mixed crystal selections with these very cheap stones, and I have also seen some people, who perhaps are unaware that they are unnaturally coloured attribute healing properties to them according to their colour ray and chakra association. The only use these crystals have really is ornamental, if you must buy them at all, please bear in mind the environmental issues associated with disposing of these toxic dyes.
There is a range of 'Aura' Quartz crystals on the market that have been treated with finely powdered metals, usually done under intense heat and pressure which fuses the metal to the crystal. Their names depend on the types of metals and the colours produced. As metals have their own metaphysical properties it is thought that this adds to the powers of the Quartz, although for every treated Quartz there is a natural alternative that has been made by Mother Nature. They are incredibly pretty though, here are a few of them...
AQUA AURA QUARTZ

Aqua aura is a natural crystal that has been coated with gold fumes. It is created in a vacuum chamber from quartz crystals and gold vapor by a process known as vapour deposition. The quartz is heated to 871 °C (1600 °F) in a vacuum, and then gold vapor is added to the chamber. The gold atoms fuse to the crystal's surface, which gives the crystal an iridescent metallic sheen. The process was awarded the United States Patent No. 6997014 on 14 February 2006. (taken from Wikipedia)
It is said to have a very cooling energy, calming anger and reducing stress, helping you to communicate your deepest truths.
Natural alternatives - Blue Lace Agate, Blue Chalcedony and Lepidolite.
ANGEL AURA QUARTZ

This Quartz is coated with powdered platinum, silver and other trace metals, and gives the crystal an iridescence that is reminiscent of the gossamer wings of angels. Said to help you to connect to the angelic realm and be more sensitive to their messages.
Natural alternative - Angelite.

As the name suggests this Quartz is coated with titanium, a high strength metal and sometimes niobium and is said to increase the physical strength and energy of the user.
Natural alternative - Brazilian Agate
These metal coatings are only surface deep and although the process of bonding them to the Quartz doesn't actually change the basic structure of the crystal, it does make it more brittle and prone to chipping and fractures.
So that concludes the Man Made Crystals and Pretty Glass article. What do you think about these types of crystals? I am completely drawn to their beauty, but I never seem to pick up much energy from them, and I confess there is a part of me that feels it's a shame man needs to fiddle with something that it is naturally beautiful.
